1990 GMC 2500 Pickup Question: stuck in park, interlock?

Rookie

My pickup is actually an 88 but is stuck in park. Let idle for ten minutes, came back and was stuck in park. Shifter trys to rotate, but the arm on the transmission is solid. Does this old of pickup have a shift interlock and if it does, is it in the transmission or on the linckage before the transmission.

There is no shift interlock on your 1988 GMC 2500 Pickup. I would suspect a shift cable or linkage issue. The first step to try and diagnose this problem would be to set the parking break, disconnect the shift linkage at the transmission and then try and move the shift lever on the transmission. If the shift lever moves then try and move the shifter on the column with the linkage disconnected. It may be necessary to disconnect the linkage at the steering column and check for a stuck cable or binding linkage..

how do you remove the transmission linkage connector on a 1997 gmc 1500 pick-up? I can seem to get the quick connector off the transmission lever.
