1997 Honda Accord Question: Stuck in park

My daughter called and said her honda is stuck in park. She is able to start the vehicle but can not release the gear shift. She also said she can not push the button in on the side of the gear shift. Does this sound like a brake sensor proble?...Any suggestions??...Thanks.

    don't know whats wrong, but when mine does that, there's a little round space to the right of the gear shift, looks like a key goes in there...funny but true, i have a giant hair pin in there, sticking out...push down on the mechanism with the hairpin and push in and move the gearshift at the same time. works for me!
