steering wheel vibrates when I hit the brakes, just had brakes replaced as mechanic claimed that was the reason for the vibration of the steering wheel.

    I would take it back to where you had the brakes done and check the rotors ,I would also get the front end checked

    I have had to replace the rotors and pads on the front of my HHR 5 times in the past 6 years. Finally installed street racing slotted rotors and non-metallic pads. This has stopped some of the vibration. There is still some vibration when wet or under heavy braking conditions. the OEM brake rotors and pads are not meant for this vehicle as it is on a truck chassis. go with a non metallic pad. the next step would be to check the front end suspension for problems.
