steering wheel on 1998 Cadillac Catera

Nothing on my steeringwheel works. That includes the horn and all of the stereo controls. The air bag light is also on. I just bought this as is (of course) and would like to fix this myself.

There is a coil of wire located under the steering wheel which makes the electrical connection between the steering wheel (which must be able to turn) and the steering column which does not move. The coil winds and unwinds as you turn the steering wheel and has become known as a "clock spring". An open circuit in this component could be what is causing your problems. The repair is a bit complicated and the fault should be properly diagnosed before making any repairs.
