Is a CV boot the same as a steering rack boot?

  No, these are different. The CV boot is on the axle and it prevents grease from leaking out of the CV Joint. The rack boot is on the steering rack and prevents dirt from getting into the steering rack.

• Rack/pinion boot on passger side is split. No fluid leaks.
  Should I repair only the boot or replace the whole rack? Steering is good and fluid level is fine.
