2006 Infiniti M35 Question: Steering Lock box does not recognize key

Rookie

This happened without notice after being parked for 7 hours. All diagnostics check out, battery is fine, alternator is fine but car is dead. Dealership has never heard of this happening. Nissan says it should be warrantied Infinity says not. Still waiting for the bad $$ news. Nissan dealer says steering lock box doesn't recognize key. car has 60,000 miles

when the steering wheel locks with older cars the driver just has to shake the steering wheel a bit (turn steering wheel left to right) and turn the key at the same time which will eventually find, what I like to call, the G-SPOT of the ignition. I'm not sure if the same applies for your car but you can surely give it a try before paying to get it checked out by professionals.

I wish that was the case. The problem is something relative to the security system. It is taking the dealership way too long to figure it out. They have been trying for 2 days now! This is a push button start. $1,270 to fix!

I had something similar happen to my 06 Range Rover HSE. ignition lock wouldn't recognize the key. had to replace the steering column for $1300. Hope your repair turned out better
