steering on 2000 Pontiac Bonneville

Every time I turn the steering wheel it makes a grinding noise but still turn what can it possibly be wrong?

When was the last time you had the power steering system flushed.

Something as simple as a P/S flush can fix your problem.

Check the power steering fluid level, fan belt tension and condition of the fan belt. If these are all OK the power steering pump may be failing. Does the steering wheel require more effort than it had in the past? or under any circumstances does the steering wheel appear to chatter.

THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUME BEARING. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS HAVE LUBRICATED.
