starting on 2001 Ford Escape

car turns over wont start , now just loud banging noise from starter wont turn over

Hey Kaleb, It's hard to know why the starter is banging, you should get this looked at by a mechanic, they should be able to listen to the noise and have a better understanding of what's going on. Failing starters don't normally make a banging noise, so this may be something else.

typical with Ford/Mazda (yes i said mazda, its a mazda tribute) very likely its a flywheel broken around the bolts, under the retainer shim, cant tell till the transmission is removed for inspection. i am an ASE certified tech, and mostly i do the fords.
