Question: starter wont always disengage

after starting sometimes it takes three trys before the starter will let loose

    The bendix is bad/sticking. It might be better to just replace the starter if it has some miles on it. When a rebuilt starter you will get a new solenoid, bendix, brushes, bearings, winding checked and replace if bad. The brushes were gone in my starter and I could have replaced them, but with the mileage on my car I knew it was a better deal to pay extra and get a rebuilt starter.
