2009 Chevrolet HHR 67,000 mi,
The battery on my 2009 HHR LT slowly died and I replaced it. Car started fine with new battery for first two days after that. Day three it would not start. I can hear clicking under the hood - not exactly sure what is clicking. Checked battery with voltmeter and it's a good battery. Jump starting doesn't work. I've read about the small electric relay in the under hood fuse box but that is not what is clicking. Hmm. Before I go to the expense of replacing the starter , how do I determine that the starter is bad, or the solenoid for that matter ? Thanks for any help out there.
THIS CAR HAS A RELAY FOR THE STARTER .. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IT IS... PUSH ON ALL THE RELAYS AND FUSES ( UNDER THE HOOD ,DRIVERS SIDE, IN A BLACK BOX.. REMOVE COVER CAREFULLY ) AND YOU MIGHT FIND ONE THAT IS A BIT LOOSE .. THIS HAPPENED TO MY BRAND NEW HHR.. I HAD TO INFORM MY DEALER WHO NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM... DO THIS BEFORE YOU REPLACE THE STARTER OR BATTERY...
car will turn over but nothing happens but a click. i thought it was a starter relay but im not sure
2009 Chevrolet HHR 35,000 mi,
In the last couple of months the car started to occasionally not turnover when you turn the key. I can hear some clicking sounds it sounds like it's from inside and under the hood. Usually after I hit the key a couple of times it will finally crank over and start right up. It did this today I tried the key twice, then I come up with an idea. I pulled the key out lock the doors with the key fab. And then hit the factory remote start and the car turned over but would not stop turning it over and never actually ran. The key remote would not shut the starter off, I put the key in the ignition and turn it to the run position and the starter shutoff. Like I said the car never actually ran. Other people are having the same problem but none of them had mentioned trying the remote start. So I don't know if it wasn't getting fuel or spark or it has something to do the anti theft system.

Battery appears strong all electrical accessories come on strong when I get in. I put the key in the ignition and nothing happens. Sometimes there may be a few consecutive clicks but no turnover. The clicking is soft and is not like the clicking when the battery is dead or dying. It has been extremely cold here in Pittsburgh as well.
