THIS CAR HAS A RELAY FOR THE STARTER .. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IT IS... PUSH ON ALL THE RELAYS AND FUSES ( UNDER THE HOOD ,DRIVERS SIDE, IN A BLACK BOX.. REMOVE COVER CAREFULLY ) AND YOU MIGHT FIND ONE THAT IS A BIT LOOSE .. THIS HAPPENED TO MY BRAND NEW HHR.. I HAD TO INFORM MY DEALER WHO NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM...
DO THIS BEFORE YOU REPLACE THE STARTER OR BATTERY...

The battery on my 2009 HHR LT slowly died and I replaced it. Car started fine with new battery for first two days after that. Day three it would not start. I can hear clicking under the hood - not exactly sure what is clicking. Checked battery with voltmeter and it's a good battery. Jump starting doesn't work. I've read about the small electric relay in the under hood fuse box but that is not what is clicking. Hmm. Before I go to the expense of replacing the starter , how do I determine that the starter is bad, or the solenoid for that matter ? Thanks for any help out there.

Car want start. I have to sit for 10 to 20 minutes to get it to turn over.
