starter stays engauged on flywheel for 1 second after starting car

check the voltage at the starter,the smaller wire. make sure the voltage is 0 when you release off of start position.It is possible that you either have a starter drive concern or a flywheel that has stripped teeth that are holding the starter drive.that is,if you have 0 volts off of start position.
