starter on 1990 Nissan Maxima

car was caught in flood and now makes 1 click sound but wont start is it the starter

Wow -- this may be bad news. How high did the water get? Was it running when the water came? The engine may be locked...worst case scenario. Water may have been introduced into the engine. Best case scenario - there could be corrosion or resistance built up on battery cables...or at the starter itself. Clean all terminals and cables, tighten. Good luck!
