If I have to brake hard the transmission will not downshift to a lower gear causing the car to buck and stall. I have had the transmission serviced as per factory recommendation intervals. The car only has 47,000 miles on it.

1993 Chevrolet Cavalier Question: Stalls under heavy breaking

I have a couple of questions back at you regarding the stalling condition of your 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier. Does this problem happen most times after driving above 45mph for over 20minutes? What happens when you try and restart your engine and place the shifter back into drive?

It happened once when the car was relatively cold. One time after coming off a 55 mile an hour road. One time after 45 mins of stop and go driving below 45 mph. As for restarting I put it in park but when I shifted to drive it died again and got it to respond correctly after the second or third attempt with the shifter.

If that continues and your driving put the car in neutral and start it if it's in drive it won't start because of the neutral safety switch so turn it on in N give it a little bit of juice and drop to drive
