My 2002 Solara (4 cyl) is stalling while idling and I want to check the fuel pump. How do you access and test it? Also, what else might the problem be?

There are two lines going to your fuel rail where the injectors sit. Pull the vacuum line off the pressure regulator, it's where they come together. Then pinch off the smaller line with pliers. This will increase fuel pressure. If it doesn't run better buy a can of carb cleaner & spray down the butterfly in the throtle body. Then remove battery cables & touch together to reset the computer's idle strategy. Put them back & let it idle in park for a few minutes. This is the most likely cause. If no help take the carb cleaner & spray around the intake hoses while car is running. If idle changes you just found a leak. Repair as needed.

I personaly have had issues with toyota 4 cyl eng, and idle air control valves casuing stalling issues. Idle the car with the hood open, and tap on the IAC valve, its sits on the side of the throttle body. You can use a 3/8" extension. If the idle changes as your tapping, and settles when your not, suspect faulty valve.
