I just bought a 2006 yukon XL Denali, 84,000 miles. Only when making a left turn, the steering wheel makes a squealing sound. Dealer says it is the steering gear at $860. another shop said the column needs to be lubed. Help!

2006 GMC Yukon XL Denali Question: squeak in steering

It's hard to know without hearing the noise first hand, but I would try having the column lubed first and see if that fixes the noise. How much do they want to charge for that?

I did not get a price but I suspect at least a $100. Is this something I can do? the noise seems to be coming from the steering column inside.

I would have to hear the noise and see the column to know how difficult this might be. It might take a few minutes or an hour, sorry, I don't know. You may have to remove the steering wheel and the airbag, so this is not something you should do without proper guidance.

Thanks for your replies. I have reviewed a lot of internet emails and it sounds like most are replacing the intermediate steering shaft, not lubing the shaft.
