Speedometer quit working on 1991 Subaru Legacy

Speedometer stopped working affecting the odometer also. Mechanic said it's a bad "reed" and needs to send part out to have part refurbished.Quoted approximately between $200-$300 to repair. The car is used for local communting and runs great, interior is spotless! Can I sell the car without a working speedometer? I already replaced the battery and alternator and don't want to put more money into it if I can help it.

I think that you can sell the car with out the Speedo working, at least I have never heard of that being a problem.
