Speedometer is not working? Do I need to go to Dealer to get repaired? on 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500

Dealer tells me it will take 2 visits due to code ID and has estimated $350 to repair, looking for better estimate.

The speedometer repair on your 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche may still be covered by an extended warranty from GM. Please check to see if your Avalanche is still covered. If not there are some aftermarket companies who repair these GM clusters please use the following link for an example on one - http://bit.ly/8z7rcm.

This is very common on the 03-06 GMs. The cause is the motors behind the gauges are failing, they all go out eventually. You can get it repaired here - www.drspeedometer.com and there's a DIY guide here - www.howtorepairmyinstrumentcluster.com
