2004 Chevrolet Impala Q&A

2004 Chevrolet Impala Question: Speedometer

My speedometer has stopped working. It was irratic for awhile. The dial has gone below zero, but it still seems to register (and move the dial) as I speed up. What could the problem be? -

The most likely cause is an internal problem with the cluster. If this is the case the cluster will need to be removed and sent to a special repair shop for repair or to get an exchange unit. Please have your problem properly diagnosed before any repairs a made. Please use the following line to find a shop near you - http://repairpal.com/directory?address=08078&car_brand_names=Chevrolet -

This is very common on the 03-06 GMs. The cause is the motors behind the gauges are failing, they all go out eventually. You can get it repaired here - www.drspeedometer.com and there's a DIY guide here - www.howtorepairmyinstrumentcluster.com -
