Question: spark plug wires

 Rookie

I was told that my cadillac does not use spark plug wires but has coil packets instead. I have never heard of this and am lost. I have been having a skipping issue and put it on the machine to see what was the cause and it said the number 3 spark plug had a skip. I cant afford to take it to the cadillac service shop right now...can u help me?

  Yes, I can help you. How many miles are on your car? If it is over 60,000- 70,000 then your plugs are due for replacing. The 100,000 mile 'tune-up' is really kind of a myth. Do you have the NorthStar 4.6 liter V8 engine. If so, it is pretty easy to replace the plugs. Just carefully remove the plug wire from each plug and then remove and replace the spark plug. The coil pack Ignition has been on GM cars since the middle 1980s. They just replaced the Distributor with a coil pack. Other than that, it is nothing to be scared of. Good Luck and Happy 4th of July
