Report: Software Update to Correct Idle Speed on Cold Start
Honda Passport Problem
Model Years Affected: 1998, 2000, 2001
Average Mileage: 137,662 mi (90,325 mi - 185,000 mi)
On some models the powertrain control module (PCM) software delays idle speed changes during cold starts causing stalling problems. A software update from Honda will repair this particular issue.

I have very bad early morning starts due to stalls, shut offs of engine, and vibrating/stalling @ red lights/stop signs. When I press the gas to move, sometimes it feels like the car wants to die, start shaking, or stops all together. I hate my 2001 Honda Passport! This car brought me nothing but pain and misery.

When car is stopped and brake applied it will stall or almost stall. Sometimes it will reave the rpms so you have to hold your foot on the brake hard to stop the car from lunging forward.
