Reprogramming the transmission control module with the latest Kia transmission software may fix abnormalities in the automatic transmission and erroneous transmission-related Check Engine Light illumination. Software updates are commonly most effective on newer vehicles. Higher mileage vehicles may exhibit a similar symptom caused by a component failure. However, whenever major transmission repairs are performed the transmission software should be checked and updated as necessary.

The check engine light would initially come on at random & now never goes out. While the check engine light is lit, the shifting of the transmission is a "hard shift" if it shifts at all. Sometime the car will not move & then will move in a "bucking" motion. I have not been able to fix the problem as i was told it was my computer that needed to be replaced & i am not able to afford it. But, after reading this it seems i may need to reset the computer

Ck. Engine light would come on briefly and go out, after a few months it came on and stayed on so had it check and it showed " Automatic transmission speed sensor" was bad have tried to replace it but no one including Kia seems to have 1 to match it.

2013 Kia Rio GDI in excellent shape. With Transmission in automatic mode, upshift a 4k rpm after uphill climb on an interstate occasionally produces a flashed check engine light ( does not stay on) and power loss ( engine rpms stay even ). It seems to be trying to find a gear so there is a loss of power while it is thinking about shifting. Only 10% of the time but it is repeatable. Does not occur in manual shift mode at same rpm and speed or during load and over-geared. Eliminated fuel variability or water. Thinking a sensor feeding transmission logic or software glitch may be the culprit.

25000kms not sure what that is in miles but its very low and the car engine light keeps coming on and going into limp mode or it simply just wont go into gear and sit there both in drive and reverse gears Sydney, Australia
