Sludge can build up in the engine because Lexus did not recommend frequent enough oil changes. Lexus will sometimes offer a discount on cleaning the engine if necessary. Owners who changed their oil every 3,000 miles did not experience these problems. This sludge build up can lead to excessive oil consumption.

I have faithfully change our oil at ever 5000 mile, as the manufacturer suggessed, now our problem is accessive oil usage, at the estimated one quart per one thousand mile. We don't want to stick the next owner with the problem, Who can we turn to and how much will it cost? Notifiy me via my email at email@example.com Signed Steve

Engine is blown
Oil consumption keeps getting progressively worse but not smoking through exhaust at all. Now using a quart of oil every 150 miles. This is definitely NOT the quality engine Toyota usually builds. My solution is to begin shopping for a new car....NOT a LEXUS!
Blue smoke.....Took 99 RX300 to local Greensboro dealer and they acted like they had never seen the problem. next vist they told me 7000 bucks for a new engine and never mentioned issues with this engine. Took it to a local Lexus dealer and they mentioned a sludged engine but no mention of this problem. They said 6-10,000 bucks. Finally found a mechanic that pointed me in the diretion of this problem and I finally read all of the information on the internet. I sent Lexus an email and they said too bad and so sad. I thought about putting an engine in it but then thought about how the Toyota clan is deceptive at best and vow to never spend another dime on anything they have to offer. I have recently rented Toyota vans from a dealership in Burlington but never again....
