This could be caused by worn out pressure plate in your clutch, this is what returns the pedal. Have a good shop test drive your car to check the clutch. How is the fluid level for your clutch? Is it low?

no, all levels are fine. We thought it was the slave cylinder. It is working fine. We an see on the pedal that there is a bar type thing that we think should have a spring. The brake pedal has one too. The shops around here want at least $100.00 to look at it. I can't afford that , so, we're trying to do it our selves. I can't figure out if there is a spring or not. Such a simple question should not be so hard to answer.
Thank you for your time and suggestion. I will pass it on to my husband.
