Shock(ing) on 2002 Honda Civic

My wife has 65000 on her 2002 Civic...when I drive over the speed bumps (at 20-25 MPH) the car really takes a jarring. When do you replace the shocks on this car?

The Civic is not an exceptionally heavy car. Shocks can wear out due to manufacturing defect, poor design or vehicle use. Do any of the shock absorbers have signs of oil leaks? I have put shocks on cars with as little as 45,000 miles. There are performance shock manufactures that make performance shocks for Honda. Tokiko and KYB make good shocks.
