After backing out of my drive way, when I stop and shift from reverse to drive there is a Loud Thud, it hit hard whatever it is. You can feel it. That can not be good for the transmission. "Normal" if this was normal it should have happend during the test drive, if it had occured during the test drive I would never have purchased this Van. Im a Dodge guy, but this troubles me.

Either from park to drive or reverse to drive there is a loud and definite "clunk" in the transmission. Our foot is hard on the brake and this problem is sporadic at best. We took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't find a problem. I told them to keep it a few days and it will appear. When they did call back they said that it was normal for the transmission to have a hard shift once in a while.
I am not happy at all with this explanation and am trying to get my money back for an obvious defect in the Caravans inability to shift correctly. As in effortless and quietly.
It shouldn't be "buyer beware" on new car purchases. Guess again!

I had the problem with the shifting between 1st and 2nd gear and the hesitation that exist that feels like a jerking when the transmission cannot decide which gear to go in. I bought the van at 32,000 and it was doing this. I bought the vehicle from Enterprise Car Rental and was told that almost all of the 2010 Dodge Caravans in their fleet does this. I took to the Chryler dealership in January 2013 one month after purchasing because I was concerned with the hesitation when the transmission shifted as well as when you put the car in gear (reverse or drive) it went into gear so hard sometimes. The dealership said they reinitialised the control module. However, this did not make any difference in the issues. I drove the vehicle until this last Friday when while going down the highway in traffic doing about 30 mph the car and then 40 mph and noticed that the rpms just kept going up and the car was not shifting. I pulled over. The engine light came on. Took the car to my mechanic and P0734, P0792 and P1790 codes came up on the computer. Took to the dealership and they came back and said that they found case #11694196 and same problem with compounder. Removed Transmission and compounder for inspection. Found seal sticking out from under the piston. Replaced compounder. I picked up the car and have driven 100 miles and so far it is not hesitating at all between 1st and 2nd gear and shifts over 40 mph. Still seems a little hard (rough & loud) when putting in gear but not as bad as before. Seems the secondary problem I experienced with the shifting between 4th and 5th gear took care of the initial problem I experienced with the hesitating shifting that occurs between 1st and 2nd gear. Just wanted to share in case it can help someone else.

shuddering under power on serious uphill. Occasional hunting of shift points at turnpike speeds. Both conditions noted while in Econ mode. Reported to dealership told transmission functioning as designed which I believe is a phrase used to avoid lemon law issues. I suspect they reprogramed the transmision. Conditions only noticed twice in 8000 miles since.

Just bought thus vehicle literally one day ago. Pulled out of a parking lot going up a hill and in econ mode and felt like a rumble strip. Took it out of econ mode and it still done it just not as hard. Taking to dealer tomorrow. Not very happy!
