what is the cause of the car not able to put into park when trying to shift ggear out of drive?

Usually the shift cable / linkage is out of adjustment or damaged worn in some way. It needs to be looked at to know for sure what is going on. If its difficult coming out of Park its usually the shift lock mechanism that is hanging up or not allowing the lever to come out of Park.
