Car will not start, shifter will not move and button on shifter will not press in. My son went to back up into the driveway before he came to a compete stop. With key on, dash indicators come on. I found the shift cable hanging loose. I moved the shift lever on transmission manually, now the dash indicators don't come on with key in and on.
shifter position in park, dash indicator in D. Vehicle seems to be in neutral. on 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Are you able to SAFELY hook the shift cable back up and adjust it? The way you moved the lever on the trans , are you sure you have it in park and not 1st or 'low' gear?
I am now. I was able to put the cable back on the shift lever and can now run thru the gears. It will need to be replaced, seems the plastic keeper is broke, however now the dash lights won't come on with the key like they did at first. When I manually moved the shift lever the first time it changed that indication….update on dash lights, appears the battery had run down, I have it charging so now the dash lights are now working. I will attempt to start it in a moment and update this log..

http://www.discountbodyparts.com/catalog/feeds/Chevrolet/Trailblazer/Replacement/Neutral%20Safety%20Switch/2002/REPC506401.html?dbpcid=productads# .. If gear indicator doesn't work OR it won't crank in park.... Need this also most likely!
Thanks for your reply, I just updated my previous reply, the battery had run down low enough that the dash won't come on. Now charging. I will attempt to start it in a moment.
