2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Question: serviced timing belt, double checked but car will not start

my technician installed a timing belt on a tdi. the car came in running, so we lined everything up according to all data, then removed and replaced the belt. now it will not start. but if you use ether, it will start. we even tried advancing and retarding injector timing but no help

    How did the technician "line everything up"? Special locking tools are required to do a TDI timing belt service and then VAG COM is needed to verify timing. Without this most likely your timing is off and you are running the risk of damaging the engine.
