A tune up and alternator replacement may have been necessary but were unlikely to be the reason the Traction Control Malfunction light is coming on. The Traction Control system has a fault which is stored in the memory of the computer in your car but requires a scan tool to retrieve. It is the same diagnostic connector used to retrieve "engine trouble codes" . Many sensors serve more than one purpose, and are shared between brakes, traction control, engine and transmission management. It would be best for now just to have the codes "read and noted" just so you know where the problem is even if you don't want to deal with the problem right now.
