I took my toyota corolla in for three diagnostic tests because my service engine light was on and all three said I needed to replace the gas cap which I have (two of them being Toyota gas caps) well now the service engine light is back on again only a week after Toyota put a new gas cap on; what could this be? They said they checked the one other thing it could be and it looked fine.

Do you know the number of the fault code that is triggering the service engine soon light on your 2004 Toyota Corolla? If the code is for an EVAP system leak - large or small leak, and replacing the gas cap has not corrected the fault then the EVAP system should be inspected for a leak using a special tool that will inject smoke into the system. When the EVAP system is properly sealed there will be no smoke escaping anywhere and the system will hold pressure. Toyota's have issues with the EVAP vapor canister so be sure that has been thoroughly checked.

Hi I have the same problem with my car though it does not stop running its irritating I did checked it three times they say problem with EVAP vapor canister and Quoted about $500.00 the biggest problem with it is you each time you go to fill the gas though the tank half empty fuel pump just stops you need pull the leaver again and again very irritating.
