The springs used on the driver's seat adjustment rails can break. As a result the seat many not properly lock in position. In the event of a crash the driver's seat could move, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will inspect the affected seat rails and replace them as necessary.
Vehicles have a tire size/weight rating label to inform owners of the carrying capacity of their vehicle. These models are being recalled because the incorrect vehicle weight rating is shown on the information label. This could result in vehicle and tire overloading, increasing the risk of tire failure. Owners will be provided an updated vehicle weight label to correct this concern.
The flexible printed circuit cable for the occupant classification system (OCS) portion of the passenger airbag system may become damaged when sliding the passenger seat forward or backward. If the cable becomes damaged, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment. Toyota dealers will install a protective cover on the OCS weight sensor cable. To correct this concern.
Toyota and General Motors are recalling certain models because the power window master switch assembly in some of these vehicles was built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assembly. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat. This could result in the switch melting or possibly catching fire. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the master window switch as necessary.
The owner's manual supplied with certain vehicles contains an inaccurate description of the operation of the front passenger occupant classification system. In addition, certain sections describing the airbag system require clarification. If a user reads and follows inaccurate owner's manual information, this could lead to an increased risk of injury to a front passenger seat occupant under certain crash conditions. To address this concern, Toyota will mail corrected inserts for the owner's manual to affected vehicle owners.
These vehicle were sold without the required load carrying captivity modification label. Dealers will mail the corrected label to vehicle owners. Owners have the option of requesting that the dealer install the label. This recall is expected to begin on May 27, 2010.
Southeast Toyota is recalling 2005–2011 models for failing to comply with federal safety standards on tire selection and rims. Affected models were sold without the proper load-carrying capacity modification labels, which may cause the driver to overload the vehicle, increasing the chance of a crash. Dealers will mail the correct labels to the customer or install the label free of charge.
In extremely low temperatures, condensation in the brake booster vacuum port may freeze, causing an increase in stopping distance, which can lead to a crash. Dealers will install a new intake air connector to relocate the brake vacuum port. The recall began on October 23, 2009. The GM recall number is 09199.
The load carrying capacity modification label may be missing from the vehicle. This information provides maximum load carrying weights as well as information about required tires and wheels. If not present, an inappropriate load may be carried in the vehicle, increasing a safety risk. Toyota has supplied customers with a new label to affix to the vehicle. This recall began on August 18, 2009.
On some Scion models sold at Southeast Toyota, the optional grill installed may allow the hood to open while driving if the vehicle is driven with the hood unlatched. The plastic radiator grill garnish could release the secondary hood release. If the hood opens while the vehicle is in motion, it could strike the roof or windshield and obstruct the driver's view, increasing the risk of a crash. Southeast Toyota will inspect the sports grill and install additional clips to ensure the radiator grill garnish is secured. The recall began October 6, 2008.
