RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
An electrical circuit under the passenger seat for the airbag system may be damaged when moving the passenger seat forward or backward. The airbag warning light may or may not illuminate as a result of this concern.
What Should You Do?
Toyota will notify owners of affected vehicles during December 2012. If your airbag warning light is on, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It’s helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
Summary:
The flexible printed circuit cable for the occupant classification system (OCS) portion of the passenger airbag system may become damaged when sliding the passenger seat forward or backward. If the cable becomes damaged, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment. Toyota dealers will install a protective cover on the OCS weight sensor cable.
