2010 Honda CR-V

Question: Scheduled Oil Change

I have 2010 Honda CRV. It has a little over 3,000 miles and shows 60% remaining before oil change. Is the first oil in a new CRV a breakin oil? I usually change oil between 3 and 4K. If there is breakin oil perhaps it should be run to the 15% remaining before I change it. Does anyone know the answer.

A friend of mine that works for Honda told me Honda do claim to use a break in oil. I would change the oil when it reaches 4000 miles and agree with changing it every 3000 miles after that..

That is kind of what I was thinking also.

My impression on this issue is that the stock factory oil from Honda is a synthetic oil and therefore does not break down as fast as other oil. If you get the oil changed with the recommended oil which is something like a 0W-30 oil, you can easily go 7k-9k milessafely without changing the oil. The cost for synthetic oil is considerably more expensive as you would pay close to $70 compared to $30 for a regular oil change. Hope this helps!
