An electrical connection problem at the body control module can result in various concerns related to application of the brake pedal.
1) Exterior brake lights not working as expected
2) Difficulty disengaging the cruise control
3) Moving the shifter out of park without pushing the brake pedal
4) Disabling of the traction control, electronic stability control, and braking assist systems
The shift cable may fracture and not indicate the proper gear as selected by the driver. This could allow a vehicle to roll when it is expected to be in "Park".
On certain vehicles, the key can be removed from the ignition when it is not in the "off" position.
While driving, the ignition switch can move out of the "run" position. As a result the engine would stall and the airbags would not deploy in the event of a crash.
