Recalls

On vehicles equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission, the tabs on the transmission shift cable end may fracture and separate. If this were to occur, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. The driver would be able to move the shifter to "Park" and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in "Park." The vehicle may not be able to be restarted and the vehicle could roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle, resulting in a possible crash without prior warning. Dealers will install a retainer over the cable end or replace the shift cable as necessary. The General Motors recall number 12106.

The heated washer module under the hood could overheat due to excessive current draw. Under certain conditions, this could result in an under hood fire. This previous recall attempt in 2008 to repair this concern did not have the expected success. Dealers will now permanently disable and remove the heated washer module to correct this concern. This recall is expected to begin on June 20, 2010.

The painted outside door handles may stick or bind, meaning the door may not latch when closed. If this were to occur, an unlatched door could open unexpectedly and an occupant not wearing a seat belt could fall out of the vehicle. Dealers will replace the painted door handles with chrome door handles free of charge. The recall began August 19, 2009. The GM recall number is 09066.

GM has recalled 2,149 vehicles that may have been assembled with an incorrect steering knuckle on one or both sides. As a result, the tie rod ball stud could pull out of or fracture the tie rod housing, causing it to separate from the steering knuckle. If this happens, loss of steering ability can occur, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the steering knuckle and replace the knuckle and tie rod as necessary. This recall is expected to begin by December 8, 2008. The General Motors recall number is 08389.

If a buildup of snow were to occur on the windshield, the movement of the wipers may be restricted. This could result in the wiper linkage becoming detached from the wiper motor, rendering the wipers inoperable. Visibility could be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will install a new wiper crank arm, driver's side link, and crank arm nut to correct this problem. This recall is expected to begin on October 13, 2008.
