Windshield Wipers May Fail

Body, Interior & Misc., October 13, 2008

RepairPal Expert Overview

Our Quick Take:

In heavy snow areas, a buildup of snow on the windshield wipers could cause the wipers to fail. Visibility could be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

What Should You Do?

This could be considered a medium priority recall, increasing to high in snowy conditions. Please contact your General Motors dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.

Summary:

If a buildup of snow were to occur on the windshield, the movement of the wipers may be restricted. This could result in the wiper linkage becoming detached from the wiper motor, rendering the wipers inoperable. Visibility could be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will install a new wiper crank arm, driver's side link, and crank arm nut to correct this problem. This recall is expected to begin on October 13, 2008. The General Motors recall number is 08091.
