In a crash that deploys the passenger front air bag, the inflator of the air bag can rupture, causing metal debris to strike vehicle occupants. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator free of charge to correct the concern.
Moisture sensitive airbag system components may deteriorate in humid climate regions, causing an increase in inflator pressure which ruptures when passenger airbags are deployed. Injury can result from inflator parts striking an occupant. Dealers will replace affected airbag inflators to correct this concern. Subaru is the manufacturer of Saabs affected by this recall. This recall supersedes Subaru recall 14V-471.
These vehicles are being recalled because the headlamp driver module (HDM) can overheat and fail. This will cause the headlights and daytime running lights to stop working. Loss of this lighting will affect the ability of the driver to see the road and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash. The remedy for this problem is still under development and not yet available.
This limited regional recall is for vehicles currently registered or first sold in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and equipped with Takata-brand air bag inflators. Upon deployment the driver and/or passenger airbag inflator could rupture, increasing the risk of personal injury. Subaru dealers will replace the affected airbag inflator modules to correct this concern.
The module that operates the power window and lock switches can allow moisture in, causing corrosion that can lead to a short circuit. This results in window and lock functions not working, and creates a fire risk. Dealers will inspect and replace affected modules free of charge to resolve the concern.
The seat belt retractor for the driver's front seat may break, resulting in the belt not retracting properly and securing the occupant. Dealers will replace the driver's front seat belt retractor free of charge to resolve the problem.
Fluid may enter the driver's door module, causing corrosion that could result in a short circuit in the door module. A short circuit may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing an odor, smoke, or a fire. Dealers will inspect the driver's door module, if it is functioning correctly, a protective coating will be applied. If the module is not functioning correctly, it will be replaced. Vehicles first sold, or currently registered, in certain states where salt is used to de-ice the roads are being recalled because fluid may enter the driver's door module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. The front lower control arms may break at the hanger brackets due to corrosion. This corrosion is commonly a result of the hanger bracket being exposed to salty conditions, such as roads where salt is used as a snow melting agent. A broken control arm can result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the affected control arms and rustproof or replace them as necessary. The fuel pump may have been incorrectly manufactured and could fail causing the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the fuel pump on affected vehicles. The recall is scheduled to begin by February 18, 2011. The Saab recall number is 15029.
