The running board on the driver's side is malfunctioning, the light in the dash says the door is ajar but it is not. Since the door seems ajar the running board won't go in. What is causing this?

If the running board won't retract and the door ajar light is illuminated the "ajar" switch is probably built into the door lock itself in the driver's door replaced a few door locks in Explorer they seemed a little flimsy but reasonably priced. If it is a common problem or a problem with body control modules the dealer or an independent repair shop that specializes in Ford/Lincoln may be the cheapest and most efficient in repairing the problem.
