Start up the vehicle then press the accelerator and the rpms rev up however the car does not speed up. After I take my foot off the accelerator and rpms go down then I try again and it finally starts picking up speed. This also happens when I slow down to turn and then try to speed up and after stopping.

MasterSounds like a transmission engagement issue? If you have a transmission equipped with a dipstick (not all Explorers do), check the transmission fluid level and condition. It could be low. If all is fine, and the problem continues, there is probably a transmission slip issue that must be addressed.

ychar, February 11, 2011, 16:14ReplyRookieHad the transmission fluid checked and topped off. Will monitor the problem for the next few days to see if it is corrected. If not then will take it in to repair shop.
