2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Question: RPM's jump up without acceleration

I need help as no one can tell me what this issue could possibly be as my check engine light is not on. As I am driving, whether in overdrive or not, my rpm's jump up as I would have pushed the gas pedal for a split second. I am at a constant speed though. I even put cruise control on just to make sure it wasn't my imagination, and the rpm's still jump up when driving at a set speed. The spark plugs and wires are new. Computer was updated, air hoses checked and/or repaired. Could it be the TPS, fuel filter, transmission? Thank you!

You need to have a skilled tech drive your car with a scanner that can take a snap-shot of your data stream before during and after the engine 'acts up', then he/she can analyze the data to see what sensor or system is acting up, but not enough to set the Check Engine Light. I do this a lot, so there are shops out there who know how to do this. Best of Luck!

I had a Durango that would do the same thing. Turned out it was the valve body in the transmission. The engine would idle up while sitting at a light or while driving. I thought it had a mind of it's own.
