rough start on 1999 Mazda B4000

when ever i go to turn the car on. i have to hold the key a lot longer in the starting position before the car turn over fully. but if i don't want to do that all i would have to do is put my feet on the gas and the car would turn over fully. so what i think the problem is that the fuel pump is dead. but then if the fuel pump is dead how is the car still running? also would it be the fuel pump?

When was the last time you had your throttle Body Cleaned out? This is common and you say that if you change the pedal position while you start it, it fires right up. This is the first thing to check out.
