When I turn the air on the car idle shakes up and down as it gets hot. Does it only when the air is on. I have replaced the spark plugs, coil packs, manifold gaskets and idle air arm. Still no fix.

2002 Mazda Tribute Question: Rough Idle when air is on
Answer #1dandd June 18, 2010, 14:31Master
This sounds like your Idle Air Control Motor is not properly compensating for the added load caused by the AC Compressor. Does your AC Compressor turn normally when it is on and does your AC system cool normally? Do you have a Check Engine Light on? Does your vehicle have normal power? Check for codes in your Engine Computer, a code P0505 is an Idle Air Control Motor fault.
here is a repair manual site to help you as well.

Thanks for your response. The idle air control motor has been replaced> AC comes on just as it should, icy cold. No check engine lights are on. The vehicle has great pick up and the motor is very strong. The only problem is it idles high and skips when the air is on only. No problems if the air is not running. Any sugeestions?

This may not be what it is if when the AC in NOT on the car runs fine,,,,but I have had NUMEROUS incidents with Vacuum lines being broken or loose or cracked,,, they are small and very easy to overlook.. run your finger over them and make sure they are attached,,,if you look for it you will find it,,,they can LOOK great and still be cracked,, pull one off at a time inspect for cracks,,, look good they are decieving,,,,it is weird that it occurs mostly with AC on but that may just be enough to bring it too youre attention,,,good luck
