My son was in Indianapolis when his car experienced mechanical failure. His car was towed to Ron's shop. My son and I live in Chicago. The mechanic and I communicated over the phone before, during and after the repairs were done. The mechanic explained thoroughly to me the problems with the car and what needed to be done to repair the car. Both my son and I are satisfied with the repairs done.
Due to character limits I have to skip a lot of details here.
My car has CAI and it sucked water into my motor. I filled a claim with my insurance company to handle the repair costs. AAA had recommend Ron's.
The insurance company agreed to replace the motor with a used one.
A week after approval, I got a call from Tom letting me know they got the motor and would be done soon. However, they couldn t release the car until they got the check for the repairs from the insurance. This seemed reasonable then, now I know the real reason.
Upon Ron s receiving the check and completing repairs, I picked up my car. Every single plastic snap was gone. All the plastic snaps and screws for the wheel well splash guard were gone and the splash guard was just jammed into the fender using the snap holders. The serpentine belt splash guard was in the trunk, and the bolts for all were gone. EVERY SINGLE retaining/locking clip they touched was broken off with the debris left under the hood. The hood rod retaining clip was gone. They put some cheap anti-freeze in, not the HOAT that is required for this motor. They broke one the bolts which both holds one of the ignition coils in the motor and provides the motor cover a mount. They also cracked that same ignition coil s housing. This was all stuff I could fix, but was very unhappy. My car was also dying and definitely didn't sound right. So I contacted Tom, who instantly turned from nice to defensive. He told me to bring it in so he could take a look at what I was talking about.
I headed to Ron's after work, I made it 5 minutes. The Engine died and the car smelled like gasoline. (At this point, I had only had the car back barely 1 day.) So I contacted Ron s, who agreed to provide a tow truck. While waiting, the smell of gas inside the car got worse. By the time the tow truck driver got there, a puddle of gas was sitting under the gas tank, and the gas smell in the car was unbearable.
The next morning Tom called accusing me of tampering with the fuel pump! He claimed someone had removed the access cover and tried to clean up a mess with a toothbrush. I told him I would come down soon as I had a rental. (I knew, up until Ron s received my car, no one has ever even removed the rear seat, let alone removed the fuel pump s access cover.) When I got there, the toothbrush was my daughters plastic toy dolls toothbrush that didn t even have bristles and there were no signs of a cleanup attempt (unless you include the fact it was cover in gas!) The access cover was removed; they claimed to have not done anything after lifting the rear seat and seeing the cover removed. Looking at the fuel line, I instantly saw the cause, the fuel line had come off and the retaining clip was broken (broken retaining clip, hmm that s familiar.) I also noticed scratch where you could clearly see someone had pried the cover off. (Let us see, they had to drain the fuel from the engine from somewhere, the gas leak is from a broken retaining clip, broken just everywhere else they touched.) Sick of dealing with Ron s, I just went along with it being a coincidence and paid them to replace the fuel line. For a $25.00 dollar part from the local dealer and 15 minutes of work, for something I believe (rightfully so) they did, I was charge $212.00.
During this time, Ron s replaced the broken ignition coil and broken bolt, fixed one or two of the issues I pointed out (not most.) Now the second time getting my car back, I had a surprise left on my center console, they used the adhesive from under the rear seat to attach my daughter s toy toothbrush to my center console. My car was still choking and dying. I picked my car up Friday afternoon, spent the entire weekend cleaning gas out of the back seat (fun,) and went to drive to work Monday. During my trip to work, every time I stopped, my car would choke and stall out. I quickly figure out the problem. After sucking water through my air intake, any competent person would replace the air sensors that likely got wet. Not Ron s, they didn t even bother to replace a $10 air flow sensor on the air intake. So I went to Autozone, pulled it out to see it covered in oily water and then replaced it with a new one. This immediately solved the dying problem and had my engine sounding closer to normal. Now with the engine sounding better, I could hear the sound of metal on metal. In addition to this, while swapping out the sensor, I noticed the strong smell of anti-freeze in the engine compartment, I also saw a small amount on the ground under my car (I spent almost a half hour trying to find the source and couldn't.) I drove my car up the road, headed to work, when I noticed intermediate white smoke from the exhaust. I had enough at this point and was paranoid about what other surprise Ron s left for me. I called into work, took a vacation day, and traded the car in.
This review in completely invalid. We do have a policy here where you can not have your car back until all repairs are paid in full. The customer tried doing a numerous amount of work before it was ever towed here. He left numerous covers off and he himself broke bolts on the engine. The insurance company was not going to pay for his incompetency for not knowing how to work on a vehicle. There words not mine. I then called the customer to ask how he would like for me to handle it and he told me to not fix them. So I am not sure where these lies he is telling us all are coming from. The gas tank never had to be removed nor did we ever even have to be in the back seat to replace a engine. The customer told me that he himself disconnected the fuel line trying to figure out his initial issue when the car ran through water. it sad that this customer was very understanding of all of this work and never showed any type of concern. I asked him numerous times if he had any questions or concerns.
I am a repeat client at Ron's Auto Service. I have found the staff to be friendly, honest and skilled. I have been satisfied with each repair that they have done.
I have used Ron's for years. They always get my car in quickly, call before beginning repairs and let me know if there are any problems along the way.
I was very pleased with the service.
Did a good job.
Great staff and they treat you respectfully.
Ron`s Auto Repair is the best auto repair facility I have used in my entire 71 years of age! The job is done right the first time every time. He employs only top mechanics certified by the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) association.
I have gone to Ron's for almost 30 years. They take care of me and my car.
They were friendly and competent. They had it done when they said they would.
I was very happy. All they had to do this time was rotate my tires. I have been very happy with Ron's. I have taken all of my vehicles there for years.
They know what they were doing.
This was a bit of an emergency; I had a dead battery. They took me right in and installed the new battery, re-calibrated the electronics, and I was on my way with no fuss.
It was a good experience. He did what I asked him to do. They got the parts in and the job done, I'm back up and running.
1. They tell me what needs to be done and the cost 2. I approve the worm 3. They do the work as estimated 4. The work is well done.
They were honest and timely.
They solved the problem but tried to add on extra services that were not needed. They got just what I needed done and they charged me the going rate on that which was fine.
Went there to get a check up and it was quick. I left it there overnight and everything went fine. It was just your average experience for me.
I was very impressed with the service. I had a sunroof fail and got a range of prices over the phone for what would likely be wrong, vs the dealer who wouldn't hazard a guess. Once at Ron's, they quickly determined what was wrong, showed me a similar failure in a vehicle they were currently repairing, and an estimate within the range I heard over the phone. They also replaced the headliner which was about 17 years old at a very reasonable cost, and found and repaired a poor antenna connection... and I finally found out why that used car I bought didn't have good radio reception.I am extremely pleased with the service and the repair.
They said that they fixed something and they didn't, that was it.
Did you ever call us or bring it back in for us to fix our mistake? If not call us so we can make it right. We make mistakes at times and we never know unless you call us.
I had a great experience. They are timely and very professional.
Great employees that are friendly and helpful to make sure my car was well taken care of and safe!!
They are very friendly and easy to do business with. It was a quick turn around time.
It is difficult to get our car there. After getting our car back we have to take it right back in because the back door will not open from the outside.
They are very good.
I was upset at first. He changed my starter and two days later the thing was dead. I took it back to him, he had it a whole week to figure it out. Apparently, the brand new starter had a bad solenoid in it. He changed the solenoid and it works fine. I don't know whether I had a bad starter or a bad solenoid. He costs me more money than a dealership. That is with a thirty dollar discount and it still costs me more than a dealership. I will go to the dealership if something goes wrong. I wasn't too satisfied. I don't mind paying the money, as long as it fixes the problem.
I think they are overpriced and I had to pay for no work to be done.
As we tell all of our customer up front before the car is ever brought into the shop is that there is a diagnosis fee. If you choose to do the repairs with us then we do not charge you the diagnosis fee but if you decide not to we do have to charge you for our technicians time for looking at the car and identifying the issue that you came in for.
Friendly staff, reasonable prices.
Too expensive and they left the windshield motor wiring unplugged and the rubber hose that the windshield washer fluid runs through unplugged.
Problem still not solved.
Awesome, direct, friendly, and very thorough.
I just like the place.
They were able to repair my sunroof versus the dealership just wanting to replace it. They did an excellent job and saved me a bunch of money!
They were nice, and the price was right.
Good service, and didn't do anything without asking if they noticed something that needed attention. They didn't do anything without asking first.
Ron's has always rated very high on ly list.
He does great work, I use him all the time.
They are great people to work on your car. It is family owned and I am very pleased with them.
They evaluate problems accurately with a repair cost estimate in a timely fashion. Explain needed repairs and answers questions to customers satisfaction. Keeps customer updated on repair progress and any additional repair work needed, and the priority of that work. Very pleased with every aspect of service!
It was fine. They did what they were supposed to do.
Outstanding, very professional, no issues with repairs.
The man Tom is awesome. I bought a nice truck and he helped getting it running right.
Very satisfied. They fixed what we needed. They told us that it wasn't what we went in there for. The price was reasonable.
I think they are over priced.
Sorry you feel that way. We are very competitive in pricing.
