1998 Chrysler Town & Country Q&A
1998 Chrysler Town & Country Question: Reverse lights don't work
I don't have access to a good wiring diagram to your car but I would apply the parking brake then put the key in the run "not running" position, one wire at the rear lights must be live if the position switch on the transmission is receiving power from the fuse and the switch then is "bridged" to allow the lights to operate in reverse. My information says the wire violet/black wire at the transmission is the reverse light wire so I imagine that wire at the switch would be live when the transmission is in reverse, (it may be ground) but at any rate you should see a change on that wire (either to power or ground) when the transmission is in reverse (engine does not need to be running). Autozone have some popular workshop manuals for free on line once you register (for free) on their website http://bit.ly/autozone_repair_info. There is a company that independent auto repair shops get their information from, this same information is available inexpensively for people that work on their own cars.. The information is year make and model specific, covering repair procedures, torque specifications, fluid capacities and specifications, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect.... Alldata is very easy to navigate http://bit.ly/AllData_Repair_Manuals_Online - patrick mannion
