the battery indicator light will flash on and off. Its been doing it for over a year. Did system check. alternator, starter and battery all check out fine. No problems charging or running. The battery indicator light comes on goes out for 5 seconds then comes back on. When the alternator quit a year plus ago. The indicator light came on steady and gauge showed redline voltage. After replacement all works well except the on of battery light. It happens like stated above 5 seconds on 5 seconds off. Is there a procedure to reset this indicator light.

Turn on the ignition switch to the on but not run position do you see an icon on the instrument panel representing a battery, if you do not see this battery icon the alternator is not seeing power to allow it to charge. Start the engine does the battery icon go out. Put a volt meter across the battery terminals with the engine off, at rest the battery voltage should be 12.6 volts if the battery is fully charged. Now get a friend to start the car while you watch the voltmeter, the voltage reading across the battery should read approximately 14.6 volts if the alternator is charging correctly. The battery voltage check and checking the total alternator output using an inductive amp meter around the alternator output lead is a good and valid check but using an oscilloscope to look at diode patterns in the alternator may show a bad diode in a failing alternator.
I have found out with advanced scanning tool that the F terminal is open. When the alternator was replaced by local mechanic the Delco alternator charges and operates ok but the two wires coming out of the alternator are currently using the two center pins out of the four pin connector on the alternator. How would I determinine which color is the "F" wire and the correct pin pin it should be connected to. I believe the two wire wire colors mounted on the center two pins are brown and grey. I've also herd ther is a TSB regarding mis marked alternator but don't know if it explains what to do
