I need to replace the head gaskets on my van. The last time I replaced head gaskets was on a 67 chevy. Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated.

Ford does not provide a procedure to align the timing components without the OE tools specified.

    REMOVAL

    WARNING:
DO NOT SMOKE OR CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR OPEN FLAME OF AND TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR ANY FUEL-RELATED COMPONENTS. HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND CAN BE IGNITED, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
FUEL IN THE FUEL SYSTEM REMAINS UNDER HIGH PRESSURE EVEN WHEN THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING.
    Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Refer to Engine Service and Repair for procedures on servicing components not detailed here. See: Service and Repair
    Remove the intake manifold.
    Remove the timing chains.
    Remove the exhaust manifolds.
Install the Lifting Handles on both ends of the cylinder head.
    Remove the bolts.
RH is shown; LH is similar.
CAUTION : The bolts must be replaced with new bolts. They are tighten-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.
    Remove the cylinder head.
Discard the head gasket and clean the cylinder block and cylinder head mating surfaces.
CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the cylinder head mating surface. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
    INSTALLATION
Position the (A) head gasket over the (B) dowel pins.
RH is shown; LH is similar.
CAUTION: Make sure all coolant residue and debris are cleaned from the block surface and cylinder bore.
Position the (A) cylinder head over the dowels and onto the (B) head gasket. Loosely install the new (C) bolts.
LH is shown; RH is similar.
Tighten the bolts in three stages, in the sequence shown.
LH is shown. RH is similar. Stage 1: 37-43 Nm (27-32 ft. lbs.)
    Stage 2: Rotate 85-95 degrees
    Stage 3: Rotate 85-95 degrees
    Install the exhaust manifolds.
    Install the timing chain/belts.
    Install the intake manifold.
    Reconnect the battery ground cable.

a lot has changed since 1967. they shoe horn the motors in these vans.

lots and lots of labor here. very involved. i suggest a bid from a shop to do this repair.

sounds about right. i would consider it. the only variable is if the heads are cracked. they will know only when they are removed.

There are 4 vaccum lines coming off of the throttle body. The (2) white ones and the black one go onto some steel tubes on the passengers side firewall. I don't remember where the red one goes. Can you help?
