Replacing the Clutch on a 1998 VW Jetta on 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

Does anyone know the exact steps involved in replacing the clutch? I have not been able to find any good diagrams or instructions yet. I bought a Chilton's manual, but the description they provide is vague.

I would go to and pay the $16 for 1 years access to the repair info for your VW. it should give you a step by step procedure. If your clutch has a self-adjusting cable, replace that as well because they are 'done' each time a clutch wears out. Also replace the engine rear main oil seal, it will leak oil on your clutch eventually.
