    general rule of thumb is to replace or have both rotors resurfaced at the same time but there is nothing wrong with replacing or resurfaceing one rotor and not the other.

    Agreed with Joel;

    However - I am wondering what it is about the rotor that you can "see" one worn and not the other? The only really good way to check a rotor is to use a micrometer and inspect for minimum thickness. And also to use a dial indicator and check for runout. Besides that, you'll want to check the edges for any "lip" that is from brake pad wear and tear. You will want to look for blue spots or "hard" spots in the rotors that may cause chattering even after a resurface.

    Then, of course, you should have a fresh pad surface to mate with the fresh rotor surface.

    Thank you for your answer. what i mean of the one side being worn is when i look at the rotor, outer edge(about half inch) of the rotor looks like it is grinded. and i dont see that on the left side rotor.

    Yeah, that's probably where a brake pad has gone metal to metal?

    Either way, if you're replacing brake pads, you should at least resurface the other side. You may be able to resurface the side that is "worn" as well - it may clean up and still be above minimum thickness.
