Replacing EGR Valve on 2001 Chevrolet Venture

Hi, I am planning on replacing the EGR valve on my Venture. The part came with instructions to clean the intake manifold before intalling the valve, to prevent repeated failures. How do I go about doing this? With a vaccum, or by scraping with a screwdriver, or some other method? Thanks!

You can spray some carb cleaner in the EGR passages and then use a shop rag to wipe out the passages, though sometimes you have to remove the manifold ( in severe cases ) and clean it out. Some GM manifolds get really carboned up and cause repeated EGR problems, especially on the 4.3 liter V6, at least in my experience.
