Question: Replaced timing belt, still won't start

Daughter was in left turn lane to turn (low RPM) and heard a noise. Car engine stopped and she tried to start. Nothing. Towed it home and found that the timing belt at the crank shaft had spun the teeth (timing belt evidently common problem with this engine). Bought a new belt and installed. Great care was taken to get timing marks correct. Once complete, the engine rotates, but no attempt to start. Also, the engine coasts to a stop rather that immediate stop (like no compression). Wondering if I have accidentally disconnected some electrical item or if the engine experienced some internal damage from the interference fit. Do not hear any unusual noise when cranked.

    It's an interference engine. It means when the belt broke the pistons hit the valves.
    Now there is no compression. You need to be prepared for a valve job. It might be better to tow it to a repair shop.

    My 2005 chevy aveo just pooped too. The pulley broke and tore into the timing belt. What a mess, anyway ive taken mine down to the cam shafts, everything is good looking from the outside but no compression worth even mentioning. Theres spark too. It took a break down for me to realise the mistake i made buying an aveo. I guess the timing belt break and caused the pistons to hit the valves, bending the valves and losing compression. After 12 hours of playing with it, its 6.45 and me and my friend who is a mechnic have come up with no other explanation. Its way too close to christmas for this. It only had 76000 miles on it. WHats interesting is that the pulley broke, the timing belt didnt show major wear and tear. I dont think your experiencing anything electrical. I think me and you both have just fallen victim to flaw of the aveo.
